The university, with its around 30000 students, aims at becoming a nationally and internationally recognized “World University” with the scientific knowledge it presents and the free education environment it provides. KU constantly updates its strategy, policies, and everyday practices, to meet contemporary local and global demands. The University has been able to determine its strengths and weaknesses and to adopt a holistic internationalization strategy. Fundamental principles of KU are student-centred education, production of scientific knowledge, academic freedom, social responsibility, fairness, and innovativeness. KU provides all kinds of support to our students through the family environment and enables them to grow up as individuals who are responsible, qualified, and preferred in the business world. In addition to academic studies, KU also gives social, cultural, sports, and artistic activity facilities to its students.
Kastamonu University, recognized as “Research University” in the field of forestry and nature tourism within the scope of Mission Differentiation and Specialization Project Focused on Regional Development by Council of Higher Education in 2018. As a Research University, KU has its projects related to R&D, production, and education in the field of forestry and nature tourism which will help the development process of the higher education system based on quality and specialization. For this purpose, it constituted of interrelated modules to educate the young people about tree, forest, forest conservation, wildlife, and timber and non-timber products along with nature and aquatic sports. Our university had an experience with ECOPRINT which was held in Wood Culture Research Center in our university. The activity was done with the bachelor students in the Department of Forest Products. The students had an opportunity to work on their own designs with different plants on fabrics.
Kastamonu University carries out its education and research within faculties, institutes, schools of higher education and vocational schools, and research centres. The age groups are between 18-35 years having undergraduate and graduate students continueing their studies with specific fields. The faculties related to ECOPRINT are Faculty of Forestry and Faculty of Fine Art and Design. In addition, our university has Wood Culture Research Center in where the trainning of ECOPRINT was held.
